What people mean by bhangra drummers

Bhangra is a Punjabi style of music and dance. The drum at the centre of it is the dhol. So when someone searches for bhangra drummers, they usually mean dhol players, also called dholis.

It is a simple mix-up of words and it is easy to fix. You do not need to know the Punjabi term. If you want live drumming for a wedding, a party or an event, you are looking for dhol players.

What a bhangra drummer does

A dhol player wears the drum on a strap and plays it with two sticks. They make the loud, driving rhythm that sets the pace for dancing.

At weddings, they lead the baraat, play an entrance for the couple or the groom, and perform sets on the dance floor. They can also play at mehndis, receptions, Vaisakhi and Diwali events, and company parties.

A good player reads the room. They build the beat, drop it for a moment, and bring it back to lift the crowd. You can ask them to follow a song or a plan, and they will work with your DJ if you have one.

How booking works

Booking is meant to be simple. You send us your date, your location and what you want the players to do. We then come back to you with your quote.

We then confirm the package that suits your plan and give you a quote. Extra players, if you want them, are added to the quote. Once you are happy, your date is secured and we agree the timings with you.

On the day, the players arrive on time, meet your contact and follow the plan. If anything changes, you can message us.

What is included

Packages are from £195 for 1 dhol player and £295 for 2. The baraat and entrance packages are from £295, a dhol set is from £395, an entrance plus set is from £495 and a full day is from £695. Teams of 4, 8, 10 or more are quoted individually.

All of our players are vetted and insured. We agree exact timings with each customer, so you know how long they will play and when.

Teams larger than 2 are quoted individually. We suggest 2 players for most baraats, 4 for receptions and 8 or more for big venues.

What to tell us when you enquire

The more we know, the better we can plan. These details help most.

The date and the start time. The venue name and postcode, or the address if it is private. What you want the players to do, such as a baraat, an entrance, a set, or a mix.

How many guests you expect, and whether it is indoors or outdoors. Any sound limits or curfews your venue has told you about. Whether there is a DJ, a horse or other acts that need to fit around the dhol.

If you are not sure about any of this, send what you have. We can ask the rest.

Choosing the right package

If your main aim is the baraat, start with the Baraat package. If you want a performance that fills the dance floor, choose Dhol set. If you want both an entrance and a set, choose Entrance + set.

You can also ask us to build a plan that fits your day. We will tell you what we would suggest, and we will be honest if you do not need as much as you think.

Bhangra drummers and the DJ

Many couples ask whether live drummers and a DJ can work together. They can. The DJ plays the track and the dhol players add live beats over the top, or take over for a short burst when the room needs a lift.

It helps to tell your DJ the plan in advance. Agree when the dhol starts, how long it plays, and who gives the signal. A short chat before the day is usually all it takes. If you tell us who your DJ is, we can make sure the handover is clear.

Dhol is loud, so also check any sound limits at your venue. Ask the venue first, then let us know.

Beyond weddings

Bhangra drummers are not only for weddings. Birthday parties, community events, festivals, launches and company celebrations all use live dhol. The packages work the same way. Tell us what you are planning and we will say what fits.
