Dhol players for a Pakistani wedding: the groom's arrival

Last updated 30 October 2026

At a Pakistani wedding, dhol is mainly for the groom's arrival. The players can start outside as the groom and his family arrive and play them in until he is seated at the head stage.

What the arrival looks like

Rather than a short entrance, the team plays the whole walk: car park or doors, through the foyer and hall, to the stage. It turns the arrival into an event.

Plan the route

Work out where the groom arrives, which doors you use, how far it is to the stage and where people will stand. Tell us and we set the pace and the number of players.

Check with the venue

Is dhol allowed outside, in the foyer and in the hall? How many players are allowed? Our venue rules guide lists what to ask.

Add to the procession

Many families add a horse or a band baja. Ask for the options and timings.
