Do dhol players use microphones?
Last updated 30 October 2026
Yes. Professional dhols can be fitted with microphones, so in a large venue the sound can be fed into the room's system for a fuller result.
Why bother
A dhol is loud, but a big hall absorbs it. A microphone lets the sound team add body so guests at the back hear it as clearly as those at the front.
When it is used
Usually in bigger venues. In smaller rooms the dhol is normally played acoustically. Give us your venue and guest numbers and we will say which suits.
Tell your DJ and venue
Ask who runs the sound and whether there is a limiter. Tell your DJ the dhol may be plugged in so the connection and volume are agreed in advance.
It does not beat a noise limit
A microphone helps the sound, but venues can still cap set length and the number of players. Check those rules as well.
